Midelt is a small town in the middle Atlas Mountains, about half way between Fes and Merzouga, with the view to the south dominated by the Jbel Ayachi.
Although not terribly interesting, Midelt is a very convenient place to break the 8 hour journey from Fes to the desert, and we can book overnight accommodation at the Kasbah Asmaa for those not wanting to complete the long drive in one day.
There is a market (Souk Jdid) where good quality Middle Atlas carpets and Rugs are sold, and a Franciscan convent where the sisters teach local girls embroidery, tapestry and weaving.
