M’hamid is a small town at the edge of the Sahara, about a 5 hour drive to the South of Ouarzazate through the stunning Oases of the Draa Valley, and 9 hours from Marrakech. M’hamid is the last town before the great Sahara, and is where the road runs out and the desert truly begins.
There is a mosque in the town, but as with the rest of Morocco, is not open to non-Muslims. A Kasbah is located about 2km away on the road out of town (take a left at the mosque), and is inhabited by black Africans who came from Mali many years ago.
Other than this, the main attraction are the Erg Ch’gaga dunes which are about 50Km from the town.
