Riad Lahboul - Briefly

The Riad Lahboul is a beautifully restored, traditional Moroccan Riad on the edge of Meknes Medina, right next to the pulsing heart of the city.   It has been lovingly and authentically restored by local master craftsmen with stunning zelige (mosaic) walls, bejmat tiled floors, stained glass windows and ornately sculpted, intricate plasterwork.  Owned and run by Englishman Simon Webster and his lovely Moroccan wife Mouna, you will be welcomed with open arms and made to feel like part of the family!

Riad Lahboul - Completely

The Riad is named after the Lahboul quarter of the Medina, which is most famous for its exquisite botanical and zoological gardens.  Built by the French between 1912 and 1914, they are almost 1 km in length, and can be seen from the Riad’s roof terraces.  They are filled with tall palm trees, small alleyways and pergolas, and are perfect for a relaxing stroll away from the bustle of the city.

The three roof terraces have different aspects of the old walled medina, the new town, the Atlas Mountains and the Lahboul Gardens, and have chairs, tables and sun beds as well as Berber tents for shade.  Comfortable Moroccan salons are arranged on the ground floor around a central patio with traditional fountain, and filled with plants, lanterns and beautifully carved wooden furniture.

Dance, music and singing classes

Belly dancing
The Riad can not only organise belly dancing classes and workshops with top professional dance teachers, but you can also go to local cabarets and even partake in dance evenings at the Riad itself.
Music and singing
Simon and Mouna have been running percussion workshops for over 15 years, and Simon has toured the world and played major venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and the Sydney Opera House.  They can arrange lessons and workshops with professional musicians and teachers for instruments and singing, and can also organise “Lila” evenings at the Riad, where musicians will come and play in true Moroccan style.

Wine Tasting

Meknes is the centre of the wine industry in Morocco, and has 3500 hectares of vines producing a range of excellent Moroccan wines.  Visits to local vineyards for wine tasting can be arranged by the Riad, and are just a short taxi ride away.

Hammam, spa and massage

There are no spa facilities at the Riad, but Simon and Mouna will happily arrange for you to go to a local Hammam or spa.

She specialises in traditional family Moroccan cuisine, offering delicious dishes such as tagines, fish dishes, mechouis, couscous, Moroccan salads and sweet meats. Menus depend on what is fresh that day and include a complete vegetarian menu.
