Les Jardins de Skoura - Briefly

Situated in the centre of the immense Palm Groves of Skoura, this fabulous little guesthouse is an absolute gem.  The staff are efficient, friendly and welcoming - nothing is too much trouble so don’t be afraid to ask!  The gardens are beautiful and the rooms so comfortable, you wont want to leave.  The food is excellent, the views incredible, the ambience peaceful and relaxing - its easy to see why it is one of our most sought after properties in the south. Whether staying for just a couple of nights whilst touring around the South (one night is really not long enough!), or for four or more nights and using it as a base, Jardins de Skoura is an absolute must when visiting Southern Morocco.

Les Jardins de Skoura - Completely

Owned and run by the lovely Caroline Lecomte, Les Jardins de Skoura is, in our opinion, the true ‘Pearl of the South’.  Arriving at Jardins de Skoura is like coming home after a long journey, and the welcome you will receive from the staff will warm your heart.

Approximately 2.5 km from the main road and town, the drive to the hotel is an interesting one, following a stony Piste marked with painted boulders through the huge Palm groves, crossing the riverbed and passing many Kasbah’s both in use and in ruins – the journey in itself will give you something to write home about!

The hotel is built in the style of a Kasbah, surrounded by pise walls (reinforced mud).  It has large, beautiful gardens filled with olive, fig, pomegranate and apricot trees, colourful plants and shrubs, vegetables and herbs, stony little pathways weaving through the plants, small lawn areas with deck chairs and several hammocks strung in the shade between the trees.

Comfortable sun beds surround the gorgeous pool, and there is a Berber tent with rugs and cushions for relaxing out of the sun.  The roof terraces have amazing views over the palm groves, and the patio area near the main building is perfect for al fresco dining.  There is also a comfortable dining room with roaring fire should the evenings be too chilly to eat outside.

The hotel has donkeys, tortoises, cats and dogs, all of which are very friendly.  When I stayed there last, we went for a walk in the Palm Groves and were given one of the dogs – Dissi (meaning ‘from this place’ in Berber) as our guide.  We had a wonderful time exploring ruined Kasbahs and wandering through the palm trees, and Dissi was marvellous – waiting patiently as we dawdled behind, and coming to find us when we went the wrong way.  His patience sadly did not last after our forth deviation from his chosen route, and we were left to find our own way back.  Dissi was waiting for us outside the hotel, and bounded up to greet us with his tail wagging madly as if we were long lost friends!
