Les Deux Tours - Completely

Les Deux Tours is a beautiful property set in the Palmeraie area of Marrakech – an apparently ceaseless expanse of palm trees stretching on for miles, inhabited by little huddles of sheep and goats which can be found grazing between the countless small hamlets scattering the landscape.

Built by the famous French architect Charles Boccara (who also designed the Hotel Tichka in Marrakech), his charmingly exquisite and stylish mix of Turkish, Moorish and Egyptian influences are heavily present in his creation of Les Deux Tours.  His son, Mathieu Boccara (who has recently followed in his Father’s footsteps by co-designing the Caravanserai with his life-long friend, Max Lawrence) now owns the hotel.

The accommodation at the hotel includes several large villas (‘Riads d’habitation’) containing both rooms and suites and 5 separate private pool suites, all of which are scattered through the lusciously beautiful walled garden, overlooked by two enormous towers built into the walls, which used to form the original entrance.  Gurgling water features – ponds, canals and fountains - can be found throughout the grounds, all bursting with life, including some small but incredibly loud frogs...  I think it was mating season when I was last there, and could not believe the volume of noise coming from a little frog no bigger than my thumb!

The gorgeous heated swimming pool is surrounded by luscious grass, and is one of the most beautiful pools in Morocco.  With ample comfortable sun-loungers for all, it is the perfect place to relax and soak up the sun after a hard morning of shopping in the souks of Marrakech.

Each of the thirty rooms and junior suites are individually decorated, with the traditional use of zelige floors (mosaic tiles), Tataoui ceilings (Oleander wood) and Tadlakt walls (polished plaster) being the common factors throughout.  Some have fireplaces, all have en-suite bath or shower and several have impressive domed bathrooms.  The five private suites have their own garden or courtyard with plunge pool, plasma screen TV’s, CD and DVD players.

Wolfgang Grobauer, a 1-star Michelin chef, runs all of Les Deux Tours restaurants, including the Salammbô Restaurant.  The menu is heavily influenced by French Nouvelle cuisine, with a small selection of Moroccan specialties also on offer.  If you do not speak French the menu can be a little confusing, but there is generally a waiter with reasonable English on hand to help translate if necessary.  Meals can also be taken throughout the grounds, and a buffet lunch is served under the giant pergola during the summer months.  Les Deux Tours is fully licensed.

Hammam and spa

The impressive and beautiful hammam  is an absolute must, and the use of Les Deux Tours trademark Lemon Verbena oil with most treatments is truly heavenly!  The same Lemon Verbena products are provided in each of the en-suite bathrooms, so you can indulge at will!  Massage and beauty treatments are available at the spa, or you can ask for a treatment in the outdoor cabin.
