La Maison Bleue - Briefly
Built in 1915 as a family palace by Sidi Mohammed El Abbadi (a famous judge and astrologer of his time), La Maison Bleue still holds the air and grace of a palace today. Resplendent in its traditional architecture, delicate scrolls of carved plasterwork, exquisite blue zelige mosaic tiles, stained-glass windows quintessentially of Fès and beautifully hand-carved cedar wood - all boasting the most incredible craftsmanship - this magnificent Moorish Riad will make your jaw drop as you step through its ancient wooden door.
La Maison Bleue - Completely
La Maison Bleue has stayed in the Abbadi family through the ages, and is now owned and run by Sidi Mohammed’s grandchildren who still live in part of the original house. It sits just inside the city walls near Bab (gate) Boujloud, within easy walking distance of all of the monuments of Fès el Jdid (the new town) and Fès el Bali Medina (the old city) so is ideal for sight seeing on foot.
It has three comfortable Moroccan salons off the main courtyard patio on the ground floor which are primarily used for dining. There is an impressive library, filled with lovely oil paintings, beautiful leather-bound books and letters written in perfect calligraphy that could keep scholars and rouges alike enthralled for hours!
The rooftop terrace affords spectacular, panoramic views over the ivory Medina and its labyrinth of 10,000 narrow alleyways, the green tiled minarets of more than 100 mosques scattered around the city, and the hills rolling on towards the Middle Atlas mountains to the south – simply breathtaking.
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, efficient and kind, and help make staying at La Maison Bleue a truly unforgettable experience of warm hospitality in a typical Moroccan style.

All are air-conditioned and heated, and have Satellite TV, mini-bar and safe.
La Maison Bleue is one of the most famous restaurants in Fès, and you should dine here at least once during your stay. You will be served a veritable banquet of traditional Moroccan dishes, subtly spiced and fit for a king. An abundance of cooked salads to start, followed by Pastilla, Tagines, Couscous, deserts, mint tea and pastries – our advise is to skip lunch, and don’t worry about trying to finish everything that is brought out to you. The idea is to try a little of each, and remember there - will be five or six courses, so pace yourselves!
Breakfast is included, and is another feast to behold, with fruit salad and cereals, yogurt and eggs, breads and pastries, Moroccan pancakes, and sometimes even soup – you will not go hungry here!! La Maison Bleue is fully licensed.
