Kasbah Tamadot - Briefly
Owned by Richard Branson as part of his ‘Virgin Limited Edition’ portfolio, the award winning Kasbah Tamadot (meaning ‘soft breeze’ in Berber) is an amazing property situated in the Foothills of the spectacular High Atlas Mountains, just an hour away from the madness of Marrakech. Its breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountain peaks to the South, the steep and rocky river valley and forested slopes to the North, and Tansghart, a traditionally built Berber Village across the river valley will leave you totally speechless. The splendour of the architecture and furnishings, the luxurious comfort of the modern amenities and the touchingly warm and friendly welcome of the local Berber staff will leave you craving more. The briefest stay we recommend is 4 nights, and even then you will literally have to drag yourselves away with a promise to return.
Kasbah Tamadot - Completely
Richard’s parents found the Kasbah during his attempt to circumnavigate the globe in a hot air balloon in 1998. The former home of Luciano Tempo (an Italian born antique dealer who filled it with beautiful antiques purchased in India, Africa and East Asia), Richard’s Mother convinced him to buy the property. Kasbah Tamadot opened in 2005 and is now one of the most sought after hideaways in Morocco, thus demanding that guest’s book early to avoid disappointment.
Within the main area of the hotel can be found the gorgeous indoor pool, Asounfou Spa and Hammam, as well as two beautiful courtyards, one with an amazing deep blue reflecting pool. Staircases leading to the salon, library, bar and the Kanoun Restaurant, 15 bedrooms and finally the roof terraces with stunning views.
The beautifully landscaped gardens of the Kasbah are filled with fruit trees, cacti, rambling roses, and a huge variety of flowering and evergreen plants. There is also a herb and vegetable garden, it produce used in the Kitchens of the hotel. The upper terrace with outdoor bar and grill overlooks the pool and main gardens, and is surrounded by Greek columns. A grand staircase leads down to the stunning, heated infinity pool – definitely one of the most beautiful swimming pools to be found in Morocco. Around the pool and on the adjacent patio area there are plentiful loungers, chairs and tables for relaxing and admiring the views.
A pathway through the gardens to the right of the pool leads to the 3 bedroom Master Suite with pool, Luxury Berber tents, tennis courts, further gardens and outdoor spa treatment area. Further on towards the properties Southern boundary can be found the ‘stables’ for the camels and mules.

The Hammam, Asounfou Spa & Indoor Pool Area
Asounfou – meaning in Berber ‘to relax’ - is exactly what guests are invited to do in the spa area! The gorgeous dark blue tiled indoor pool has wonderful views of the gardens, and provides loungers for relaxation around the edge. The traditional Moroccan Hammam and sauna are located off the pool room, along with two treatment rooms. It is free to use the Sauna and Hammam, however Hammam ‘rituals’ (treatments) are charged. A full range of spa treatments is available for both men and women, and the use of exclusive products chosen for their pureness and quality enhance the whole experience.

Accommodation - further details and image gallery
Each of the rooms and suites feature discreet modern amenities such as CD players, well stocked mini bar, safe, hair dryers, air-conditioning and heating (TV and DVD players can be provided on request). All have sumptuous bed linen, towels and bathrobes, and the Moroccan slippers provided are yours to keep. The bathrooms have luxurious bath products, and umbrellas and sun hats are just some of the thoughtful little extras you will find.
Each room has been individually decorated and reflects the beautiful architecture of the building, and are named after their individual design. Adorned with the antiques acquired by Luciano from all over the world and steeped in the charm of traditional Moroccan design, a feeling of luxurious serenity with a hint of the exotic has been achieved.
The Master Suite with pool features three rooms – one superior room, one deluxe room and one deluxe suite with pool. It can be sold as individual rooms (not generally until 2 months before arrival depending on availability) or as a whole for a larger party.
Five of the luxury Berber Tented Suites are situated a short stroll through the herb and vegetable garden beyond the infinity pool and three bedroom Master Suite, and are perched on the hillside overlooking the spectacular valley. All of them have views of Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in the Atlas Mountains. The sixth tent is at the front of the property, and benefits from views of the sunset over the valley, and all are perfect for those seeking a little more privacy.
They each have their own private terrace and plunge pool, sun loungers and outdoor dining. They are open plan with king size beds and large comfortable sofas, dressing room and large bathroom with huge bathtubs where you can soak whilst gazing at the incredible views of the valley and mountains – quite an experience! They have the same facilities as the rooms in the main hotel, and are again individually decorated in a similar style to those in the main building. As with the other rooms and suites, the Berber tents also have Berber names that tell you something about them:
1. Afoulky tent, meaning beauty, has been built on the site of the old beauty centre.
2. Addou tent, the name of the breeze channelled to it by a bend in the valley
3. Amalou tent, named for the shade given by the nearby Azoka tree
4. Azoka, named after the tree.
5. Adrar (mountain) is furthest away from the main hotel and offers the best views of all
6. Azenzer, meaning ray of sun, it faces the setting sun over Asni at the front of the property.

The Kanoun restaurant is run and managed by Executive Head Chef Lee Cowie, and Food and Beverage Manager Romain Arnaud. New Zealander Lee spent three years as Chef on Virgin Limited Edition’s Necker Island, and French born Romain spent much of his childhood growing up in Morocco.
An a la carte breakfast is included with omelettes and eggs made to order. The Kanoun Restaurant serves delicious local and international cuisine, using fresh local produce as well as home-grown herbs and vegetables. Weather permitting you can dine al fresco up on the roof terrace or overlooking the infinity pool on the columned terrace for lunch or dinner. A private, romantic meal for two is also possible by prior arrangement.
Pre dinner cocktails are often served around the beautiful reflection pool, the library or you can have an aperitif in the intimate fireside bar next to the dining room.
