Kasbah du Toubkal - Briefly
The Kasbah du Toubkal is an extraordinary property. Built on the summit of a ‘hill’ some 1800m above sea level, seemingly on the brink of a precipice which plunges steeply into the valley below, its awesome backdrop is that of the Jbel Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa. Run by the local Berbers, their sincere hospitality will warm your heart, their kindness and generosity will touch your soul, and the incredibly beauty of the landscape will stay with you forever.
Kasbah du Toubkal - Completely
The local community is at the core of the Kasbah’s success, and to ensure that the community ethos is maintained only local staff are employed, and an accommodation levy of 5% is charged and given to the Village Association and Education for All. Thanks to the Kasbah and its guests, the Village Association has so far been able to build a village Hammam and has co-funded schools in the area, has integrated a much needed rubbish disposal system, and has provided the regions first Ambulance and driver.
The simple yet comfortable Kasbah is set in a gloriously remote location in the heart of the Toubkal National Park, completely unreachable by motor vehicle. The road ends in Imlil, a small Berber village in the mountains below the Kasbah, and guests must venture on by mule or foot, following a track up through the village, and a pathway up the steep wooded hillside leading to the Kasbah.
The Kasbah has a huge main salon, used as a dining room, with roaring fires and comfortable Moroccan style seating. There are several smaller rooms off the main salon, each with its own fire, and used for groups and school parties to keep them separate from other guests. The roof terraces afford the most stunning panoramic views over the valleys below, the snow filled mountains towering above, and the Berber hamlets chiselled out of the mountain slopes all around.
Explore the mountains on foot or by mule, on your own or with a guide, and relax on the terrace with your mint tea after a refreshing Hammam.

Hammam
The Kasbah du Toubkal has a traditional Hammam, but it is a do-it-yourself affair and needs to be pre-booked. Ask at reception to book your half hour slot.
The Kasbah
The Kasbah has 13 rooms and suites, and 1 apartment. A three-bedroom ‘Garden house’ can be made up from the apartment and two adjoining and interconnecting rooms. All rooms have air-conditioning, heating and CD player. The en-suite bathrooms have beautiful granite features full of incredible fossils, mined in southern Morocco.
The Kasbah also has ‘dormitory’ accommodation for school parties, and simple ‘Berber salon’ accommodation in the towers with shared bathroom facilities for back packers. Both types of accommodation are well away from the more comfortable en-suite rooms.
Dar Imlil is a lovely stone house in the village of Imlil with a further 10 en-suite rooms. This can be booked as a slightly cheaper alternative, or used if the main Kasbah is full.
10 km from the Kasbah, the remote trekking lodge is a 4 to 6 hour walk from the main Kasbah, and has a further 3 deluxe en-suite rooms.
Berber houses, gites and mountains huts
Used for overnight walking treks, this accommodation is very simple, and generally shared with other walkers. Tents may also be used for some of the more remote treks.
Neltner mountain hut
14 km from the Kasbah and situated at the base of Mount Toubkal, the Neltner hut is used when doing an ascent of Toubkal, and is shared with other hikers.
There is also a new, more modern 'Mouflon hut' which may be availabile if you would prefer something a little less basic. It cannot be guaranteed, but please ask if you would like to be short-listed for this alternative option when booking your Toubkal ascent.
Offering delicious, simple and traditional Berber cuisine, breakfast and dinner, tea and coffee are included and lunch is available on request. When trekking, a packed lunch can be provided, or a simple meal with a family in a Berber hamlet can be arranged.
The Kasbah does not serve alcohol, so if you enjoy a cold beer at the end of your trek, or a bottle of wine with your meal, you will need to purchase this from a supermarket before arriving in Imlil. The Kasbah does not charge corkage, and will provide glasses and corkscrew.
